INTERIOR DESIGN
Studio Robert Marinelli is a multidisciplinary design firm with offices in New York City and Los Angeles. We specialize in high-end interior projects, architectural renovations, and furniture design. Our goal is to create the home of your dreams by finding the perfect synergy between the client, their property, and our designs. Each project is approached as a unique expression of the client’s particular vision and the physical context, rather than a vehicle for a rigid aesthetic or signature style. We believe that the exterior architecture of a building and its interior spaces exist in a dynamic dialogue, and that the overall design vocabulary created for a space should unite the two, whether achieved through continuity or contrast.
While embracing historical references, Studio Robert Marinelli is also a devotee of iconic designs and emerging artists. We infuse spaces with a mix of compelling materials and textures, grounded by singular color palettes and dramatic lighting that collectively bring the interiors and objects to life. We employ an intuitive approach to space planning and favor open rooms and unconventional furniture plans that offset architectural form, create engaging compositions, and promote a lifestyle of well-being.

Dynamic Dialogue Collection
A COLLECTION OF PIECES THAT MOVE ORGANICALLY INTO THE DOMESTIC ENVIRONMENTS OF HUMANKIND AND INSPIRE URBAN DWELLERS TO BE MORE CLOSELY CONNECTED AND REDISCOVER INDIGENOUS CULTURES, ANIMALS, AND THEIR LIVING HABITATS. THE COLLECTION HIGHLIGHTS NEUTRAL FINISHES WITH SOLID, WHITE OAK CONSTRUCTION AND CAST CONCRETE. THE CURVY INSET BACK AND RUGGED LEGS OF THE GOYAH ARMCHAIR, SIDE CHAIR, AND OTTOMAN REFLECT THE OREAMNOS MOUNTAIN GOATS’ INDIGENOUS TERRAIN AND RESISTANCE TO ITS NATURAL HABITAT IN THE SOUTHERN ROCKIES. THE BEMBE TABLE SERIES, WHICH INCLUDE THE LOW TABLE, CONSOLE TABLE, AND SIDE TABLES, ARE SHOWN WITH HEAVY SANDBLASTED TEXTURE AND INSET CAST CONCRETE TRAYS INSPIRED BY BANANA TREE BARK AND THE WHITE PIGMENTED EYES OF TRIBAL FACE MASKS WORN BY THE SEMI-NOMADIC TRIBE RESIDING IN FORESTED ENVIRONMENTS IN THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO AND REPRESENT A WINDOW INTO THE SPIRITUAL WORLD.
MARINELLI’S COOK SWIVEL CHAIR AND BOOMERANG SOFA WERE COMMISSIONED BY A PRIVATE CLIENT TO COEXIST, EMBRACE, AND ACT AS A BRIDGE BETWEEN THE GOYAH AND BEMBE SERIES IN THE SAME SPACE. CONCEIVED TO BE VIEWED FROM THE SIDE AND BACK, THE COOK CHAIR EXPRESSES A MODERNIST ADAPTATION OF FREE-STANDING, OCEANIC TRIBAL SCULPTURES AND A SHIFT AWAY FROM CONCEPTUAL REPRESENTATION TOWARDS A PERCEPTUAL MODE. THE BOOMERANG SOFA AND DETACHED SIDE CHAIR REPRESENT THE ROTATING WINGS OF A BOOMERANG. ORIGINALLY DESIGNED TO RETURN TO THE THROWER, THIS FORM, CONNECTED AT AN ANGLE, APPEARS IN SOME OF THE OLDEST ROCK ART PAINTINGS, WHICH ARE FOUND AMONG THE BRADSHAW / GWION GWION IN THE KIMBERLEY AND ARE ABOUT 20,000 YEARS OLD. THROUGHOUT THE PRODUCTION PROCESS, MARINELLI CLOSELY COLLABORATES WITH HIS TEAM OF SPECIALIZED ARTISANS. HE STRIVES TO CREATE FURNISHINGS THAT HAVE THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF QUALITY, RECOGNIZE HUMANKINDS CO-EXISTING RELATIONSHIP WITH NATURAL HABITATS AND COME TO LIFE IN THE HOME.

As a furniture designer, Marinelli’s work dissolves the boundaries between art and design by honoring the materiality, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage of the skilled artisans he collaborates with. His creations bridge ancient and contemporary worlds by exploring and utilizing natural, sustainable, and noble materials alongside new technologies. Marinelli fuses these elements in idiosyncratic ways to achieve both sculptural and architectural forms. Each piece in his collection possesses a distinctive narrative and is made from expressive materials that manifest his diverse artistic inspirations.
Marinelli began his design career in Asia and Europe, where he collaborated with leading development firms on specialized retail and hospitality projects. His innate sense of curiosity and collaborative spirit elevated him to an essential role within design and production teams, fostering private commissions with artists and artisans for projects in Tokyo, Berlin, Singapore, and Istanbul. His hands-on approach and cross-cultural experiences continue to shape his distinctive aesthetic and design philosophy.
Upon returning to New York, Marinelli launched his emblematic furniture collection in major cities before establishing his namesake gallery and interior design studio in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District. As one of the district’s pioneering visionaries, his gallery emerged as a downtown destination, showcasing his own collection or works alongside a curated selection of twentieth-century design, contemporary art, lighting, and textiles.
